The reality

Why Mental Health Care in Michigan Can Feel Out of Reach

Michigan spans two peninsulas and 83 counties, so the nearest psychiatric office can be a long drive, especially up north and in the UP. Also, many practices have waitlists. As a result, it is easy to put off care. That is why we offer an office in Troy and video visits anywhere in Michigan.

Long Michigan Winters and Seasonal Depression

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that usually starts in late fall or early winter. According to the NIMH, it is more common in people who live farther north, where winter days are shorter. Symptoms often last 4–5 months. However, SAD is treatable, for example with light therapy, talk therapy or medication. So if winter hits hard, tell your provider.
